What it is
A catch-all line. It includes money the bank owes suppliers, interest accrued but not yet paid to depositors, staff bonus provision, income tax payable, dividends declared and unpaid, and lease liabilities.
It is not a worry line on its own. It is useful mainly for understanding the small differences between quarters.
How it is calculated
Sum of all liabilities not shown on their own line: accrued expenses + provisions + tax payable + dividend payable + lease liabilities + others.
Worked on Nabil Bank Limited, FY 2082/83 Q4
NABIL's other liabilities were Rs 1,050.81 crore at the end of FY 2082/83 Q4.
What good looks like
Small relative to deposits. A jump after year-end often reflects a dividend declared but not yet paid.
Watch out
- A dividend that has been declared sits here until it is paid out.
- Staff bonus in Nepal is a legal provision, so it appears every year.
- Deferred tax liabilities may be shown separately or here depending on the bank.
In Nepal
Nepal's Bonus Act requires companies to set aside a share of profit as staff bonus; banks show it under this heading or a separate provision line.
Questions
Usually not. Check the notes; it is often a declared dividend or a tax payment timing difference.
Here, as dividend payable, from the day it is declared until it reaches shareholders.
